So you have probably heard about infusing candy flavors with vodka for some homemade goodness, but did you know that you can use your dishwasher to improve and speed up the process? This new technique is becoming popular among Do-It-Yourselfers and is pretty easy to do. Basically, the trick is to combine vodka with your desired flavor in a bottle (A.K.A infusion) and place the sealed bottle in the dishwasher for a washing cycle at the highest heat setting. The heat from washer is just hot enough to melt down the candy or sweets without burning off the alcohol. Once the cycle is finished you simply shake, strain, and let the bottle cool.
Normal infusions generally involve fruit and take a few days or a few weeks for the flavors to get transferred. The dishwasher method only takes a few minutes but is meant primarily for candy infusions. In other words, maybe use a more traditional method when working with fruit.
Below are some popular ingredients to try infusing.
