Thankfully in this day and age it is not too hard to find alcohol. Nearly all gas stations carry beer, and bars and restaurants are abundant. But there are certain places that you can find booze that you may have not known existed. So in order to expand your booze provider database here are a few strange places to find booze.
Sure it is more common for booze to bring you to the hospital than for hospitals to bring you your booze but nevertheless about half of hospitals will serve up alcohol to patients if the doctor orders it.
According to Association for Healthcare Foodservice “Many hospitals distribute alcoholic beverages wine, beer, and other liquors based on physician orders. Depending on the facility, this benefit is fulfilled by the pharmacy or by the foodservice department.” Here is to hoping you get a cool doctor.
Why not get a trim while getting tipsy? Establishments are popping up all over that will not only cut your hair but hook you up with a tasty beverage as well. Girls can hit up Beauty Bar in Manhattan who offer martinis and manicures for only $10; while guys can visit John Allens Club in NYC and Blind Barber in Culver City, CA for awesome haircut/drink specials. Who knows, maybe there is a barber bar near you.
It would be nice to get a nice draft beer with those fries but sadly alcohol at fast-food restaurants are not a common occurrence in the States. However, Florida seems to be breaking this trend. A Burger King spin off in South Beach, Florida is offering pints of Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors with their $7.99 Whopper combos. Sonic also provides beer in Ft. Lauderdale and Homestead with about 25 different selections. Sadly Sonic has no plans to expand this idea. Boooo!
Some pharmacies across the US have started offering beers and wines but now Duane Reade pharmacy is targeting the craft beer scene by offering Growler refills. So go fill your prescription while you fill your growler. Win, win!
“Our Brew York City growler bars have been a welcomed and distinct amenity in each store location we’ve introduced this innovative concept,” said Jackie Burrell, director of merchandising operations at Duane Reade. “Wonderfully fresh, local craft beers are available daily with ‘wet’ tastings offered early evenings Friday and Saturday at all four growler bar locations.”
Sadly you won’t find this in the US, but if you travel to Japan you might be able to spot this genius creation, the alcohol vending machine. Plenty of things in Japan are sold in vending machines (even underwear…gross.) but alcohol is probably one of their coolest ideas yet.
Jerry’s Liquor in Tempe, Arizona won an award for best Drive-Thru Liquor Store. So not only are there places that sell liquor through a drive-thru like a CVS pharmacy but there are enough to warrant giving out an award. Wow. You can even grab a ready-to-go mixed drink at one of four Daiquiri and Creams location in Louisiana since state law permits it as long as the driver doesn’t drink while driving. Guess they are on the honor system over there.
