Possible Shortage for Germany’s Oktoberfest

Possible Shortage for Germany’s Oktoberfest

September 10, 2012 0

Germany with a beer shortage? Not likely. But it does appear that a few of Germany’s biggest breweries like Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, and Hofbräu may not be able to supply Germany’s upcoming Oktoberfest celebration due to a shortage of bottles and casks. These breweries normally rely on their customers recycling and returning their bottles so that they may be washed and reused. The breweries received fewer bottles than normal this year and now there is concern on whether they can meet the incredible demand for the 2-week Oktoberfest event.

A spokesman for Hofbräu said they have a shortage after every summer but this year was particularly bad. He reported that they are down “tens of thousands” of bottles. Breweries Spaten and Löwenbräu are also reporting a shortage of 30-liter kegs.

Thankfully there will be no shortage of booze or bottles at our Oktoberfest event.
