We have been following the heated competition for the title of Strongest Beer in the World for some time. But now, a new beer has claimed the record with an impressive 65% ABV. The beer is called Armageddon and was brewed by Brewmeister in Scotland. This new beer is 16 times stronger than your average beer and considerably stronger than your average liquor.
The previous record holder was from German brewery Schorschbrau with their Schorschbock Finis Coranat Opus which weighed in with an ABV of 57% (A brewery in Holland may have broken this record in 201o with a 60% beer). Schorschbrau won the title after many exchanges with BrewDog Brewery (also Scottish). The two breweries went back and forth with the title as BrewDog broke the record with their Tactical Nuclear Penguin (32% ABV), then Sink the Bismark (41% ABV), and finally BrewDog’s strongest (and weirdest) End of History which had an ABV of 55% and was served in stuffed rodent koozies. The name End of History was chosen to represent the end of the ABV brewing war, but Schorschbrau answered back with a beer 2% stronger.
But now Armageddon has claimed the crown with a daunting name and an increase of the record by 8%. The 330 ml bottles retail for about £80. This is considerably less than End of History’s $750 price tag.
As for taste Brewmeister describes the beer as such.
“Despite being 65%, this beer has lots of flavour. It’s slightly sweet, hoppy, malty and retains much of the yeast present during fermentation. Bottles are conditioned but we recommend people drink this in 35ml measures. So drink with friends to save it going flat.”
