As part of an fashion project, Irish entrepreneur Peter Heron has started a new campaign to make jeans out of recyclable material, namely beer bottles. The project was named ‘I Am Not A Virgin‘ since the materials used are non-virgin. It aims to find a new method for mass producing jeans while making use of the large plethora of recyclable materials out there…we have a lot of beer bottles.
The jeans are made from 75% cotton collected from fabric scraps and 25% recycled synthetic material created from beer bottles and some other substances. The main goal as expressed on their website is to create a green solution to the waste created by bottles.
“A couple of facts. It takes 1 million years for a single glass bottle to break down in landfill and if all jeans sold in the US alone were produced using our green technology, approximately 1,200,000 barrels of oil could be saved yearly.”
