Colorado’s Wynkoop Brewing Company plans on releasing a new beer flavored with bull testicles. The beer, which originally started as an April Fools joke, will be called Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout. Their mock video (see below) for the stout was received so well that the brewery decided to produce the stout for real. The beer is made with Colorado-grown base malts, roasted barley, seven specialty malts, Styrian Golding hops, sea salt—and, of course, roasted bull testicles.
Beer journalist Marty Jones, describes the deep brown stout tasting of ”equally deep flavors of chocolate syrup, Kahlua, and espresso, along with a palpable level of alcohol and a savory umami-like note.”
Rocky Mountain Oysters ( aka bull testicles) are a popular dish in Colorado and reflects Wynkoops trend of making “ballsy” beers. The brewery plans to tap the first keg on October 8th.
The beer will be available exclusively at Wynkoop Brewing Company and at their table at the Great American Beer Festival, October 11-13 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.
