Ever thought about how to “drink outside of the box” and go beyond the traditional champagne toast or bottle of wine you have been saving for that ‘ultra’ special occasion? Valentine’s Day is no exception! Sometimes tradition is essential; sometimes it can be ABSOLUTELY boring! This Valentine’s Day, forget tradition and delve into the “cocktails less traveled” to discover how you can create “recipes for romance” that are anything but conventional! 

Blushing Geisha

Who says you have to go all the way to the Orient to experience the romance of Japan? The Blushing Geisha is a sexy, luscious mix of exotic herbal sweetness that will add the perfect touch to your romantic Valentine’s Day affair. Light on the alcohol, but BIG on sumptuousness!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz TY KU liqueur
  • 1 oz pomegranate juice
  • 2 oz Sence rose nectar
  • lime wedge for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Strain into a stemmed glass or over ice in an old-fashioned glass.
  4. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Basil Hayden’s® Fire & Ice (Inspired by HBO®’s Game of Thrones)

Are you a fan of wizardry? Sword-and-sorcery? Well, if you’ve been romanced by the amorousness of HBO®’s Game of Thrones, you’ll hardly be able to resist the lure of Basil Hayden’s® Fire & Ice! Cuddle up to the one you love and sip this equally intriguing, rich and colorful cocktail that is sure to ‘spice up’ your Valentine’s Day.

Ingredients:

  • 11⁄2 parts Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon
  • 3⁄4 parts Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 Slice Jalapeno
  • 1 part Pomegranate Juice
  • 1⁄2 part Simple Syrup
  • Splash of Soda Water

Preparation:

  1. Muddle lime juice, jalapeno, pomegranate juice and simple syrup in a mixing tin.
  2. Add Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon and shake lightly for 5 seconds.
  3. Strain into a Collins glass, add ice and top with soda water.
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel and pomegranate seeds.

Basil Hayden’s® Sookie’s Virtue (Inspired by HBO®’s
 True Blood)

Sookie Stackhouse is all ‘protagonist’ in HBO®’s
 True Blood, but this cocktail will take center stage in your home on February 14th! Chockfull of bright, juicy red fruit—you might just ask whether you’ve been ‘bit’ by the “love bug” after you try this seductive concoction inspired by our favorite Bon Temps siren!

Ingredients:

  • 11⁄2 parts Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon
  • 8 Red Grapes
  • 2 Raspberries
  • 3⁄4 parts Lemon Juice
  • 3⁄4 parts Floral Tea Syrup (see recipe below)

Floral Tea Syrup Preparation:

Floral Tea Syrup
Combine 1 part of your favorite freshly brewed floral tea (jasmine, lavender, chamomile, etc.) with 1 part sugar.
2. Stir until sugar is completely dissolved and refrigerate.

Preparation:

  1. Muddle red grapes, raspberries, lemon juice and floral tea syrup in a mixing tin.
  2. Add Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon and shake vigorously for 7 seconds.
  3. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a grape and raspberry.

Lavender Champagne Cocktail

Want a dreamy twist on the traditional champagne swill? Launch your lust for lavender with this fragrant and charming libation that will conjure up all the romance that brought you together. The toast will be EASY with this in your flutes!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried lavender
  • 4 bottles (750 mL) dry Champagne or sparkling wine, chilled
  • Fresh lavender sprigs, for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Bring sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve sugar.
  2. Stir in dried lavender. Remove from heat. Let cool completely.
  3. Strain out lavender. Refrigerate syrup until ready to serve (up to 1 month).
  4. Pour about 6 ounces Champagne and 1 1/2 teaspoons syrup into each flute.
  5. Garnish each with a lavender sprig.
