On-The-Go Powdered Beer

On-The-Go Powdered Beer

August 21, 2012 2

There is a growing market for beer drinkers who are on the move. These active drinkers who want to enjoy a good beer while hiking, camping, or going to the beach are faced with burden of hauling beer bottles and cans whiles still keeping them cold. Well, what a magical day and age we live in because geniuses over at Pat’s Backcountry Beverages have developed a powered beer that when combined with water and a portable carbonation system can produce a craft beer style brew said to be comparable to a micro brew with all the taste, alcohol, carbonation, and aroma we love. This seems like pretty huge accomplishment so how do they do this?

HBT (Hybrid Brewing Technology- patent pending) is the process behind the magic which is designed to produce a highly concentrated beer that only needs to be hydrated and carbonated to become a real beer. But what do they mean by concentrated? They say concentrated because the beer package has a much higher alcohol content, more comparable to vodka than beer, that is diluted when combined with water. The carbonation comes from Pat’s nifty carbonator mug device (see how it works with the video below).

Still confused how this magic happens? Us too.  Unfortunately they do not go into great detail on the actual chemistry and fermentation stuff that causes this powder to become beer but nonetheless this is one thing we would definitely like to try. They also offer home brewing kits for larger quantities and powdered wine and soda.  Right now the company is still looking for more investors to go into mass production.

That’s crazy, it doesn’t even look like beer! When are you going to try this on your show Zane. Steve would be the best spokesperson for something called backcountry beverages.

Oh you have to put this on the show. I would love to see your reaction to what it tastes like and the look and smell. Keep up the good work.
